Second part today. As mentioned, 21 km in total. It's all asphalt, my feet notice it. It's now going more inland. Still wonderful views over mountains and valleys, but less coast. We are lucky again with our inexpensive accommodation. A good room and a large bathtub. Real luxury for pilgrims. The town

From the Güemes hostel to Santander is a short, beautiful story: again stunning views, sunshine and in sandals several km across the beach to the ferry that docks in Santander city centre. This day set itself apart from the fact that there was no rain today. Every little advantage suddenly becomes important on a Camino. We also stayed under 20 km, which also contributed to the mood right at the beginning that we slept an hour longer today and simply set off later. My cold seems to be over

In total we walked 24 km today. Arrived in Laredo, the tourism authority had put up a "town entrance sign" for pilgrims. The attached scallop was already bent and more like a fork. No doubt pilgrims had tried to rip the thing out and take it back as a souvenir. I'll leave that here without comment.

The first of today's 24 km went to Laredo. Since Bilbao there have been no major ups and downs, at least not compared to before. The rise as such today was therefore not worth mentioning. Such were the views of the coast in the morning light. Simply spectacular. And it seemed to be a day without rain

We walked a total of 21 km today. My night had interruptions. A cold comes, stays and goes for three days at a time. I think I'm in the middle. Until Islares the rain had us under control. Continuous rain. Even on the way out of town I was wondering how long it would be before we both got completely

The last stage before Bilbao. After 13 km we took the suburban train to the big city for the rest, narrow-gauge railway. The heat wasn't as brutal today as it was yesterday, but we still had enough. At least visibly more pilgrims were out and about today. Everyone wants to be close to their destination

Yesterday we had a break in Santillana and saw a cave with cave paintings that was worth seeing. Well explained and good accompanying exhibition. For me, part of the Camino is not to walk past every place, but to take the time to see special places along the way. We also went to the diocesan museum
