I think it's important to mention that you can also travel part of the route by jeep, but you have to book it in advance (I think at the ticket booth at the gorge). We wanted to shorten the way back and take the jeep, but we found out from other hikers that we needed a ticket for that. So we continued

Great hike, if you start from the foot bath on the right, the ascent is first and the Way of the Cross looks impressive because you look up at the stairs from below. 👍

We parked the car at the castle in Waldeck and walked about 1.1 km down to the lake. Just behind the beach house is the passenger boat dock. We bought a ticket to Scheid for €7 and drove across. From there, we hiked about 15 km to Waldeck. The scenery was beautiful, with lots of forest.
