I actually wanted to walk the North Sea-Baltic Sea hiking trail (NOW). But why does it start and end around 10 km from the coast? I don't know 🤷♀️

Unfortunately, the storm came two hours earlier than forecast.
I did drive to the Ruhr and back, but it was actually supposed to be a longer trip. I had to turn around and was able to get to safety from the lightning and rain. Afterwards, I got home almost dry.

Like all EN routes, the EN5 often goes over roads. This was OK on a weekday morning. I wouldn't recommend the route during rush hour or on weekends.
The Fellerstraße is currently closed (since today of all days!). So I had to drive back a bit and take an alternative route along a forest path.

The Emscher is not exactly idyllic. Nevertheless, you drive through a lot of green areas. Unfortunately, there are many diversions and almost no restaurants.
The Emscher estuary is not accessible from the south or the north due to construction work.
