Sturdy shoes absolutely necessary, since a large part of the route leads over lava rocks. With my barefoot hiking shoes it was borderline, despite the high shaft. Danger of twisting! Otherwise wide paths and good signage. Hardly any increase. Nice hike through the pine forest.
