Unsere letzte Wanderung und Nacht in Schottland hält nochmal ein paar Überraschungen bereit. Ziel heute: die schnuckelig kleine Ryvoan Bothy am Fuße der stolzen Cairngorm Mountains. Vom Parkplatz des Glenmore Visitor Centers sind es nur rund viereinhalb Kilometer auf recht flacher Strecke.

Our last hike and night in Scotland held a few more surprises in store. Today's destination: the charming little Ryvoan Bothy at the foot of the majestic Cairngorm Mountains. From the Glenmore Visitor Centre parking lot, it's only about four and a half kilometers on a fairly flat path.

🏴 Durness & Beach 🌊
Die kleine Ortschaft Durness liegt ganz im Nordwesten Schottlands. Hier gibt es einen - für seine Größe - gut sortierten Lebensmittelladen, einige gemütliche Unterkünfte und ein sehr gut eingerichtetes Hostel.

🏴 Strathcailleach Bothy via Sandwood Beach to Blairmore Car Park 🌊
What a difference a day makes! 😅
Die ganze Nacht hämmert der Wind den Regen gegen die Steinwand der Bothy. Noch im Dunkeln - um 7.30 Uhr - schwant uns Böses, als wir bei Kaffee und Tee die nahende Rückwanderung gedanklich ausblenden.

🏴 Sunset walk to Strathcailleach Bothy via Sandwood Bay 🌅
Mit Holzscheiten in jeder verfügbaren Rucksacktasche und auf dem Rucksack drauf, stiefeln wir um 14 Uhr los zur Strathcailleach Bothy. Die Sonne steht um die Zeit so tief, dass es uns vorkommt, als sei es bereits 17 Uhr. Aber immerhin haben wir Sonne! ☀️

With firewood in every available pocket of our backpacks and stacked on top, we set off for Strathcailleach Bothy at 2 p.m. The sun was so low in the sky that it felt like 5 p.m. already. But at least we had sunshine! ☀️

🏴 Drumbeg & Viewpoint 🌊
Die NC 500 führt durch die abgelegene Ortschaft Drumbeg. Nur ein Stück südlich befindet sich ein toller Aussichtspunkt mit einer Picknickbank und einem super Panorama über Eddrachillis Bay mit ihren vorgelagerten Inselchen. Viele Sagen ranken sich um die trügerischen Gewässer. 🌊

The NC 500 passes through the remote village of Drumbeg. Just a short distance south, there's a fantastic viewpoint with a picnic bench and a stunning panorama of Eddrachillis Bay and its offshore islets. Many legends surround these treacherous waters. 🌊
Drumbeg itself offers a small shop, accommodation, and even a post office.

🏴 Lochinver 🚢
Nachdem wir nass wie die Pudel von unserem kleinen Abenteuer zur Suileag Bothy und dem schweißtreibenden Aufstieg auf den Suilven zurückkehren, gönnen wir uns eine Nacht in einem sogenannten Pod: eine gemütliche halbrunde Unterkunft, die alles auf kleinstem Raum bietet. Sogar einen Whirlpool auf der Veranda.

🏴 Suileag Bothy up to Suilven and back to car park 🌧️
Nach einem herrlichen Anmarsch im Sonnenuntergang mit je fünf Holzscheiten auf dem Buckel, wachen wir heute in der Suileag Bothy auf. Aus dem Fenster können wir den stolzen Monolithen sehen, den wir besteigen wollen: Suilven. Laut Wetter App haben wir bis 11 Uhr Zeit, dann setzt der Regen ein.
