We started at the Puerto de Erjos parking lot, just past Santiago del Teide. I paused Komoot during our breaks, which added about an hour to our hike. The weather is unpredictable, so we've decided against the mountains today and opted for the Malpais de la Rasca nature reserve. Apparently, it's home to a special species of lizard and around 40 endemic plants, which unfortunately aren't in bloom right now. Still, it's a pleasant, if not exceptional, hike.

A beautiful path right by the sea with strong surf and a modern lighthouse from 1994. The other hiking trails in the area had inclines that were too steep for us at the time.

Today we had planned a coastal hike, as the visibility in the mountains was poor. However, we were stopped by a road closure. So we turned back, drove around it, and continued our hike there (see Part 2). Very easy walking, yet with beautiful views.

A beautiful, varied hike through forest and across lava fields. The volcano with the rounded summit is Monte Chinyero, which erupted in 1909 for 10 days.

It was a varied and beautiful hike in perfect hiking weather, with heather in bloom as far as the eye could see!
