Surefootedness required! Only for the fit, it's really far. Both campgrounds have Bear Wires. If you have Bear Cannisters with you, you save the long descent and only walk to Hoh Lake.

Good to walk and beautiful scenery. Appleton Pass has Bear Wires, so you can go without Bear Cannister. The Bear Wires are about 200 meters below (in front of) Oyster Lake just to the right of the trail.

Only for fit people. Pretty far and exhausting. The descent is always over rocky paths. Water is only available with a filter. If you have Bear Cannister with you, you can only walk as far as Hoh Lake on day 2 and then save most of the ascent.
