The first kilometer of the hike is very exposed. Toddlers should be given a hand here and elementary school children should also be kept under close surveillance. The cliffs here drop vertically into the river. Later in the tour, however, dangerous spots are secured or the slopes are not that steep.

In 2005, UNESCO added the necropolis of Pantalica, together with Syracuse, to the World Heritage list under the name "Syracuse and the rock necropolis of Pantalica". The oldest graves date back to 1270, the most recent to the 8th century BC, i.e. the Sicilian Bronze and Iron Age. For us, the idyllic gorge was the highlight.
