A little note about the Villmar "marble bridge" 😎
The term “Lahn marble” is actually incorrect. Because the stone is not marble, but limestone !!!
Marble is formed when limestone is exposed to extremely high pressures and temperatures during ore formation. This was not the case with the reef in Villmar.
The term “Lahn marble” is practically just a commercial term.

Also known as the Marble Bridge, the three-arched Lahn Bridge in Villmar has spanned the Lahn since 1894. It was built and clad with numerous marble blocks from the nearby quarries. The statue of the bridge saint Johannes Nepomuk was erected in 1996 from the Lahn marble variety "Wirbelau".
