The castle ruins were built above the town of the same name in Dürnstein in the 12th century. The castle is known thanks to a famous prisoner: The English King Richard the Lionheart was held here from December 1192 to March 1193 after the return of his third crusade and then passed on to the German Emperor Heinrich VI. delivered. A themed trail runs around the castle ruins that tells you more about the history.

18.08.2018 - Indescribable, the view - the way and the ruin are worth seeing - besides, there is also a bit of history on the way up. If you start early in the morning then you can enjoy the castle / ruin alone - just dreamlike - you should take your time.
