The casemates were built between 1655 and 1686 and are part of one of the most powerful fortifications in Central Germany. They once surrounded Friedenstein Castle. A guided tour through this underground fortress world is a very special and exciting experience. Friedenstein Castle is surrounded by one of the strongest baroque fortifications in central Germany - the casemates. The casemates in Gotha can be visited on an underground tour of around 300 m. In the casemates there are embrasure chambers, gun galleries, rear ramparts and much more to discover. Due to their very well-preserved condition, the Gotha casemates further enhance the architectural-historical significance of the impressive castle complex. A guided tour through the fortifications, which have remained unchanged for over 350 years, is a unique experience for young and old.
