Nice place to stop and visit. Liam Lynch was a leading figure in the Irish War of Indepence and the monument marks the spot where he is thought to have been shot.

This monument, on the slopes of Crohan, pays tribute to General Liam Lynch, an Irish Republican Army officer during the Civil War of Independence.

He was shot here by National Army soldiers in April 1923 and died of his injuries in Clonmel's hospital. Some historians believe that the bullet that killed Lynch effectively ushered in the beginning of the end of the war, as it was only a matter of twenty days later that Lynch's successor gave the order to cease operations.
