The Jibou Botanical Garden was founded in 1968 on the initiative of Professor Vasile Fati, after whom it is named (Grădina Botanică "Vasile Fati"). It is located on the site of the former English-style park of the Baroque Wesselényi family palace. The botanical garden covers approximately 24 hectares. Professor Fati taught biology at the Jibou Gymnasium, which was then housed as a boarding school in the medieval former Wesselényi family residence. He recognized the potential of the site and worked tirelessly to realize his idea.
