The grass snake also received a wooden sculpture in the "Tree to Sculpture" series by artist Roel van Wijlick for the nature trail in the municipality of Swalmen. This, as with the other sculptures, is because the grass snake lives here.
More specifically, in the description of the Elmpter Schwalmbruch (grass snakes love water), we read "with a bit of luck, the hiker might observe a slow worm or a grass snake" - see wa-wa-we.eu/nl/premium-wandelroutes/wanderwege-details/schwalmbruch.html
If you're lucky enough to spot one: the grass snake is completely harmless, as you can read on the sign attached to the sculpture.

About the grass snake: it's a water-loving snake that can swim excellently, lives in moist habitats with plenty of hiding places and sunny as well as shady spots, and is completely harmless and (therefore) non-venomous.
