There is a crypt under the altar. One of the better preserved altar crypts from this period. Entering it by the stairs to the right of the altar, we go down next to a single-nave hall, barrel vaulted with a semicircular apse. This is one of the crypts.

Vandring
The underground crypt is the most sacred place for the faithful, created on the spot where St. Dimitrios died after long tortures after converting to Christianity as a soldier in the Roman army.
The crypt is particularly impressive because of the baptismal font with marble columns, but also because of the exposed foundations of the Roman baths on which the church was built. The sarcophagus with the remains of St. Demetrius is located in the main nave of the church.
