The railway reached Tölz in 1874, and the extension to Lenggries was completed in 1924. In 1924, the old station, closer to the city center, was abandoned and the "new station" pictured here was built.
Operations are managed by Bayerische Oberlandbahn GmbH, a private railway company belonging to the Veolia Group.
