Here in the "Wirtelstraße" pedestrian zone, at the junction with "Kleine Zehnthofstraße", is the fountain of the Düren originals - people who shaped city life in Düren in a special way around the year 1900. All figures are designed to be flexible so that they can interact with "living people" - Düren history you can touch.

The Düren originals are people who shaped everyday city life with their presence. They drew attention to themselves with their typical peculiarities. The fountain represents these personalities. These include:

the “Policeman Wölk”, who is depicted high up as a person of respect
"Taste Marie" with her beloved gray marshal and carriage
"Lenzen's Zipper"
"Ricks Fraasch" with his dog and the pull cart
the town musician “Laute Dej” and
the “Hohn brothers” with brushes and buckets
The original Düren fountain was built by Bonifatius Stirnberg, an Aachen sculptor, and handed over in September 1983.
