Waterfall Trail

Embark on the Cottonwood, Maple Canyon, and Lupine Loop, an easy 4.1 miles (6.6 km) hike that offers varied terrain and scenery. You will gain 669 feet (204 metres) in elevation, typically completing the route in about 1 hour and 59 minutes. As you start on the Lupine Loop, you'll walk through wide grassy meadows before entering shady oak trees and brush, which are particularly vibrant with wildflowers in spring. The trail also features small spurs leading down to the Carmel River, a nice spot for wading. Later, the Maple Canyon section provides views of Carmel Valley, including some steeper parts and stairs.

To begin your hike, head to Garland Ranch Regional Park. The Lupine Loop is easily accessible as the first trail you'll find from the main parking area. Before you set out, you can visit the park's visitor center, where restrooms, drinking water, and trail maps are available for your convenience. Spring is an excellent time to visit if you want to experience the vibrant wildflower displays.

This loop is located within Garland Ranch Regional Park, offering a diverse natural experience. You will encounter a mix of landscapes, from open meadows to shaded oak woodlands. The presence of the Carmel River along the route adds a refreshing element, providing opportunities to pause by the water.
