The Thyraburg was probably a wooden Wallburg from the early Middle Ages and thus a part of Danewerks. For the construction of the castle an artificial plateau of 45 meters in length and 35 meters in width was created, which is still preserved today. From the castle, however, there are no remains.

The castle complex

The "Thyraburg" is located at a strategic corner of the Danevirke. The rectangular plateau is at the end of the main wall and adjoins the lowland of the Dannevirke Lake. It is now silted up. Can you see the former lake shore in the landscape? The builders of the Danevirke cleverly incorporated the lake as a natural obstacle. On the other bank, the northern and connecting walls meet.

The main wall was dated to 737 AD near this point, so it existed before the Viking Age. The age of the castle is unknown, however.
