This 1847 building was a railway turntable, but it was only used as such for a decade. Later it was used as a warehouse, it fell into disuse after WWII. In 1964 it reopened as a performing arts venue, when the playwright Arnold Wesker established the Centre 42 Theatre Company and adapted the building as a theatre. In 1966 The Doors played one of their two only UK shows here.

The building is Grade II listed and is regarded as a notable example of mid-19th century railway architecture.
