The monument commemorates the participation of the Polish American community in Poland regaining its independence. The Polish American community from the USA and Canada provided 20,000 volunteers for General Józef Haller's Blue Army, of which about 14,500 returned to America after the fighting ended. In May 1921, the Polish Army Veterans Association in America (SWAP) was established, which initiated the construction of this monument.
