The Cañada Real de la Galiana is an important livestock route that was used extensively during the centuries of Mesta rule, until its abolition in 1836. The main route runs between the Cebollera mountain range in the Cameros riojanos and the summer pastures in the Alcudia valley in Ciudad Real. In the Community of Madrid it is 93 kilometres long but in few places it maintains the original width of 74 metres of public domain corresponding to the royal cattle trails, due to illegal occupation, urban pressure and agricultural crops.
