Vandring
The Sanctuary of La Peregrina was built in 1778 in the historic centre of Pontevedra, in the Plaza de la Peregrina. It was declared a historical-artistic monument in 1982 and combines late Baroque with neoclassical forms, such as its main altarpiece, erected in 1789. It is one of the most symbolic and important buildings in the city and is dedicated to the Virgin who, according to tradition, guided pilgrims from Baiona to Santiago.

Built from 1778 according to plans by Antonio de Souto with the collaboration of Bernardo José de Mier. It combines typical formulas of the late baroque with neoclassical suggestions. Its plant is inspired by a scallop, a symbol par excellence of pilgrims, within which a cross is inscribed.

The pilgrimage church "Santuario de la Virgen Peregrina de Pontevedra" (sanctuary of the virgin pilgrim) is next to the Basilica of Santa Maria the most important pilgrimage church on the Way of St. James to Santiago. The baroque jewel from 1778 is dedicated to the Portuguese pilgrims who have been coming to Santiago since the 17th century and stopped here. The church was given the name 'La Peregrina'.
