Vandring

The phonolite is a volcanic rock. It can be found in a side valley of the Rückersbacher gorge north-east of Kleinostheim in the "Blue Quarry" quarry, which has meanwhile become largely overgrown. There it was mined and crushed into gravel in the 19th and into the 20th century. The hard, blue-grey volcanic rock when fresh has often been converted into a slightly crumbling, crumbly, beige-brown mass as a result of weathering-related decomposition in the former quarry. It is the only occurrence of this rock in Bavaria.
