It is also worth a hike to Sandymount (approx. 2 km from the bay but 200 meters in altitude). Unfortunately we got lost because we didn't see a signpost and walked too far to the right (watch out !!!).

Sandfly Bay is a sandy bay with big dunes. The bay can be reached from Seal Point Road or a hiking trail from Sandymount.

Many think the name of the bay comes from the biting "sandflies" (flies). This is wrong. It was named after the sand, which, given the windy nature of this coast, flies from the high dunes that surround the bay.

A small island located at the northeastern end of the bay is known for its shape as Lion Rock or Lion's Head Rock. A striking landmark.
