The Chojnice Valley of Death is a place of mass executions from the period of World War II. In the autumn of 1939, the Germans murdered residents of the city and the district, the mentally ill and representatives of the local Jewish community in the surrounding fields, meadows and wastelands. The extermination was not a random event. One of the places of mass murder was the northern outskirts of Chojnice. Exhumation works were carried out after the war. The remains of only 168 people were recovered at that time – however, the scale of the crime was much greater. Archival materials also showed that at the end of January 1945, a column of several hundred prisoners was driven to Chojnice. In May 2020, research began in the Valley of Death – a place of execution from World War II in Chojnice. Their most important result was locating the space where the burned remains of Poles murdered by officers of the Third Reich at the end of January 1945 were located.
