The sanctuary of Sainte-Anne d´Auray is a place strongly marked by spirituality in southern Brittany. A few kilometers from the pretty medieval town of Auray, Sainte-Anne d´Auray is one of the most prestigious sanctuaries in Brittany, honored by the visit of Pope John Paul II in September 1996.

After Lourdes and Lisieux, this is the third largest pilgrimage site in France and the most important in Brittany.
A farmer experienced apparitions of St. Anne and was commissioned to rebuild a chapel from the 6th century. However, no remains of it remained. While searching his fields, he discovered old graves and a statue of St. Anne. This was the starting point for an important pilgrimage! Unfortunately, almost everything was destroyed during the French Revolution, so that only a small part of the old image is integrated into the new statue.
