Zinc violet (Viola lutea subsp. calaminaria, synonym: Viola calaminaria) is a subspecies of Viola lutea. The plant occurs naturally in Kelmis (La Calamine) in the Belgian province of Liège. The plant has adapted to an excess of zinc, originating from an old mine spoil heap of a former mining company.

In August, the calamine plants are in full bloom. Yellow calamine violets "Viola calaminaria" grow here densely in large colonies.
