On August 10, 1855, Auxiliary Bishop Dr. Friedrich BAUDRI laid the foundation stone. The Cologne cathedral master builder Vinzenz STAZ had provided the plans. But it was not until nine years later, on January 8, 1864, that Senior Pastor RICHARTZ of St. Nicholas (Upper Town) consecrated the church and celebrated the first holy mass at the right side altar. But the church was not finished.

The bells of this church were twice a victim of the war. The current bells from 1952 are tuned to dis, fis and a. The old tower clock dates back to 1869.
If we look past the church on the right, we can see the rectory in the background, the foundation stone of which was laid in 1873.

The feast day of Saint Joseph in the calendar of saints is March 19th, and the church also celebrates the feast of "Joseph the Worker" on May 1st.
