Vandring
Per Brahe the Younger founded Kristinestad in 1649 to strengthen trade in the Gulf of Bothnia. According to the Finnish Heritage Agency, the grid plan of Kristinestad's town centre is the best preserved town plan from the period of Swedish rule. The town was never burned down and the buildings date from different eras. Most of them were built in the 19th century, the oldest buildings date from 1700. The proximity to the countryside is clearly visible in the town's layout and in many of the buildings.
