Historians are certain that Ekerenvorde already existed at the end of the 12th century. However, there are no documents. These were destroyed by a fire, which put the Danish king Erich 1416 during the fight against the count of Holstein.

Wooden bridge of Eckernförde The wooden bridge serves as a pedestrian bridge and connects the Borby district with the center. The wooden bascule bridge is unique in Schleswig-Holstein. It was created after the great storm surge of 1872 to restore the destroyed connection between the two districts and has retained its basic features to this day. A special feature are the many padlocks that are attached to the metal struts of the bridge today. The locks, often with engraved names, stand as a symbol of the love between the people whose names can be read on them.
