Killer means church hamlet. The first church that gives the church its name was probably built around 650, long before the founding of Reichenau or St. Gallen.
As excavations show, a pagan sanctuary stood in its place before the first church was built. This building was probably built at the instigation of the Christian nobility and was the first church for miles around, otherwise the place and the whole valley would not have been named after it.
