The Gallus Tower was built in 1343. After a terrible flood in 1342, it was built as a protective wall against the waters of the Rhine. The loopholes found in the tower indicate that the tower was incorporated into the city's fortifications. After preliminary planning and discussions with the authorities took place between May and June 1972, the guild council decided on September 11, 1972, to expand the tower. Excavation work was completed by October 1972. The Gallus Tower can also be rented for festivities.
