The building was built in the style of the Weser Renaissance, around 1870 the building was altered and almost completely destroyed in World War II 1945. After the war, the building was rebuilt from 1947-1958. It will be undergoing renovations in 2018.

Beautiful old building built in Weser Renaissance, dates from the 17th century.
The Ratskeller has a new cook who gives me an exquisite dish, namely the Tafelspitz

The poor condition of the old town hall from 1473 in his capital city was such an offence to the sovereign, Prince-Bishop Dietrich von Fürstenberg, that he asked the town council to build a new one. The council then commissioned the master builder Hermann Baumhauer from Wewelsburg with this task. In 1613, he began construction together with the Höxteran council carpenter Peter Richel. They integrated parts of the previous building into the new building, which was built in the style of the Weser Renaissance, a regional variant of the Nordic Renaissance.
