The Ortiz Bridge in the center of the city of Cali was the first river crossing on the Rio Cali. The bridge was built between 1835 and 1845 by the Franciscan monk Fray José Ignacio Ortiz from Candelaria, who was an amateur engineer. The bridge is now a national monument of Colombia. From the bridge there is a beautiful view over the Rio Cali, the Iglesia La Ermita and the Parque de la Retreta.
