The fountain served as one of the most important water sources for ships docking in the port of Lisbon and for the local residents.

The Chafariz d'El Rei is a historic fountain right on the Tagus River, framed by old houses and the narrow streets of Alfama. Once one of the city's most important water features, it's now a tranquil and eye-catching spot on the riverbank. A lovely place for a short break before continuing your stroll through the labyrinthine old town.
