Vandring
Lyon has its traboules, Chambéry has its alleys! They are like corridors which allow you to move between large buildings. The buildings in the historic center have the particularity of being deep and narrow on the facade, a legacy of the “toisé”, this 14th century tax calculated according to the main width of the facades. The narrower they were, the leaner the tax... Hence the structure of the historic heart.

Traboules (French, from Latin *transambulare via Vulgar Latin trabulare "to cross") are pedestrian passages that allow passage from one street to another, possibly through courtyards, as tunnels and sometimes over different levels. They are found mainly in Lyon, but also in other French cities such as Villefranche-sur-Saône and Saint-Étienne.

Vandring
Traboule is a word coined in Lyon. It refers to hidden passages and corridors that allow you to walk long distances away from the street. This allows you to take shortcuts or walk parallel to the street. You walk through hallways, courtyards and stairwells, all of which are connected to one another.
