Maiden Castle was a pre-historic settlement, erected for defensive purposes, north of High Harker Hill, overlooking two major valleys. This enclosure is oval and 108m east to west and 88m north to south. It's not easy dating it precisely, but it is suggested that the construction of the round house might have been in the late Iron Age, although it might have been much earlier.
There are spectacular views of the area from up here. In the summer, when this site is surrounded by the purple heather, it's so beautiful that I don't quite know what to say about that.
