Onteora Lake is a small lake which is great for watersports. This is a lovely tranquil setting, great for a rest stop and a picnic.

Originally, the lake was created by damming the Esopus Creek in the early 1900s.

There are also mountain biking and hiking trails here, of varying levels of difficulty.

Onteora Lake and its trail offers a variety of terrain and views, from hemlock forests and rocky ledges to a tranquil lake and a pond. You can choose from three loops of different lengths and difficulty levels, or combine them for a longer hike. The trail is also popular for mountain biking, running, fishing, and camping. The best time to visit is from March to October, when the weather is pleasant and the wildflowers are in bloom.
