The "Old Watchtower" refers to historical remains at Cape Kounoupeli, located in the center of the national park and marking the border between the prefectures of Achaia and Ilia.
On the northeastern
part of the rock at Cape Kounoupeli are the ruins of a small castle dating back to the Frankish occupation.
Today, the area serves as an
important observation point. From a fire lookout tower at a height of 47 meters, there is a panoramic view of the Strofylia Forest, the Kotychi Lagoon, and the Ionian Sea.
