Now, on the other side of the castle, we look at the old town, beautiful with its water feature, stretching out before us.
The city was first mentioned in documents in 775.
We see a statue of Ernst the Pious, who founded the Duchy of Saxe-Gotha in 1640.
We didn't want to linger that long, as we still have a long way to go, but if we do, the old town is simply beautiful.
