The Hidirlik Tower dates back to the 2nd century AD during the Roman Imperial period, when Antalya was known as Attaleia. While historians debate its original function, most evidence suggests that it was first built as a monumental tomb for a prominent Roman consul, possibly M. Calpurnius Rufus or M. Petronius Umbrinus.
The tower's structure reflects classical Roman engineering, with a square lower level and a cylindrical superstructure. Six fasces reliefs (symbolic objects carried by Roman lictors) can be seen on either side of the lower entrance door, confirming its Roman origins.

Former tower from the Roman Empire.
The tower is believed to have been built in the 2nd century AD by the ruling Roman Empire and used as a lighthouse or fortress with defensive functions. Due to the fact that there is a large stone block inside the tower, some historians believe that the tower could also be a tomb. Restorations of the tower were carried out during the Seljuk period and under the Ottoman Empire.
The name of the tower is "Khidirlik", which literally means "place of Khidr", meaning the place where the spring festival Khidirellez takes place.
