A bronze statue of King Charles III John of Sweden-Norway, created by Norwegian sculptor Brynjulf Bergslien and unveiled on September 7, 1875, on Slottsplassen in front of the Royal Palace in Oslo. The monument depicts the king in Swedish marshal uniform greeting with his bicorn hat while his horse has just stopped and stamps with its left front hoof.

The statue became the center of intense political and cultural debate during the 1860s, with disputes over whether a Norwegian or foreign artist should create it, ultimately symbolizing the ongoing tension about Norway's position in the Swedish-Norwegian union.
