Despite evidence of a church on this site before the Norman Conquest of the 11th century, this church is later, with the tower actually dating back to the 15th century.
Originally, it was dedicated to a Celtic saint before adopting its current dedication.
The nave, chancel, and porch were constructed in the mid-19th century.

Vandring

Winsford is arguably the prettiest village in Exmoor, a picturesque mix of thatched cottages set in an idyllic landscape setting of green hills and moorland. On a steep hill overlooking the village centre stands the medieval parish church of St Mary Magdalene.
The church dates to the early Norman period, though most of the present building is a product of the 14th and 15th centuries. The striking three-stage tower rises to a height of 90 feet. The height is unusual as most moorland churches tend to have short, squat towers.

Despite there being an earlier church during the time of the Norman Conquest, of which nothing remains, the church you see now is still quite old.
The tower dates back to the 15th century, and the south aisle to the 16th century.
Like many other churches in the area, it underwent a Victorian restoration in the mid-19th century.
