On the northern outskirts of Lauterecken, a weir was built in the 19th century, which supplied the industrial plant (chair making) located there at the time with electricity until the 1920s. Today the site is home to one of Germany's largest juice manufacturers.
Since the weir became unstable at the end of the 20th century and also hindered the migration of local fish species, it was renovated in 2003 and ecological continuity was created in the form of a rough ramp (fish ladder). Electricity is no longer generated here.
