Town halls with Catholic chapels are a regional specialty that dates back to the times of Electoral Palatinate rule. After the so-called division of the church in the Electoral Palatinate (Electoral Düsseldorf Declaration of Religion of 1705), the number of religious adherents decided which religious group was allowed to keep the parish church and which had to find a new one of its own. There was also the possibility of a simultaneum, i.e. dividing the church into two denominations using a wall inside the church.
