In 1980, the inscription of the archaeological site of Kato Paphos on the UNESCO World Heritage List triggered far-reaching long-term plans to protect and preserve the city's archaeological finds, as well as to promote and provide visitors with comprehensive information about them.
Ancient temples, rock-cut tombs and Roman villas with intricately worked mosaic floors testify to the particularly sophisticated culture of the people of Paphos, which stretches far back into the past - from the Neolithic period through the Hellenistic and Roman periods to the Byzantine era.
