The parish church of Halle-Zoersel is dedicated to Saint Martin. A chapel already existed on this site before 1300, which formed the choir of the new church when it was enlarged in the 15th century. The current neo-Gothic cruciform basilica was built in 1911-1913, to a design by E. Dieltiens. The 15th-century square western tower in Balegem stone was preserved. The church tower has been protected as a monument since 1938.

There was already a chapel in Halle before 1300, which was enlarged into a church around 1500, of which the original chapel formed the choir. The nave, the side choirs and the tower were built in Balegem stone. During the religious disputes (1570-1585) the church was also used as a shelter for the population. After this, several recovery campaigns took place. In 1730, the facade of the chapel, which separated the choir and nave, was demolished. In 1776 the spire was replaced by a late baroque lantern.
