On December 16, 1996, a memorial was inaugurated in Finkenwerder on the site of the former Deutsche Werft on the initiative of the local authority manager at the time. It was designed by the Finkenwerder-based artist Axel Groehl (born 1953) and shows a perforated concrete wall with a bronze sculpture in the middle. The artist wanted to use it to create a "sign of concentrated hope against despair, gloom and coercion". The ensemble is framed by ten rowan trees. The memorial completed the design of the Rüschpark.
