Originally built to install an artillery battery, this work was raised to its current level during the last expansion of the city of Saint-Malo carried out between 1737 and 1744. This bastion, now next to the National School of Marine Marchande, allows tourists to admire, from east to west, the Sillon beach, the Fort National, the fort of Conchée and the island of Cézembre, and to see the tomb of François-René de Chateaubriand on the islet of Grand-Bé

The Fort à la Reine in Saint-Malo is a historic bastion that forms part of the city's fortifications. It was originally built in 1694 as the "Bastion du Cheval-Blanc" after an Anglo-Dutch attack on Saint-Malo. The famous military engineer Vauban ordered its construction to better protect the city against enemy attacks.
